Aftercare for Skin Peels

Following a skin peel, proper aftercare is essential to promote healing and maximise results. Here are some key guidelines to follow:

Immediate Care

  • Keep it Dry: Avoid wetting the treated area for the first 24 hours. This includes not washing your face or exercising.

  • Gentle Cleansing: After the initial 24 hours, use a mild, hydrating cleanser to cleanse your face. Avoid exfoliants and abrasive scrubs.

Moisturisation

  • Hydrate: Apply a gentle, hydrating moisturiser as recommended by your practitioner at least twice daily to keep the skin moisturised and to reduce tightness.

  • Avoid Heavy Products: Refrain from using heavy creams, oils, or products containing active ingredients like retinoids or acids until your skin has healed.

Sun Protection

  • Sunscreen is Essential: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 during the healing process and for several weeks following the peel to protect your skin from UV exposure.

  • Limit Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sunlight, sunbeds, and tanning until your skin has fully healed, which can take several weeks.

Avoid Irritants

  • Skip Makeup Temporarily: It is best to avoid makeup for at least 48 hours post-peel, allowing the skin time to breathe and recover. When applying makeup, opt for mineral-based products if possible.

  • No Swimming or Saunas: Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas for at least a week, as these can irritate the treated skin.

Monitoring Skin Condition

  • Watch for Reactions: Keep an eye on your skin for any unusual reactions, such as excessive redness, swelling, or peeling, which should be reported to your practitioner.

  • Do Not Pick: Refrain from picking at or peeling any flakes or dry skin to prevent scarring and promote healthy healing.

Follow-Up

  • Adhere to Appointments: Attend any follow-up appointments as instructed by your practitioner to monitor your skin’s healing process and discuss any concerns.

These aftercare steps will help ensure your skin heals smoothly and effectively following a skin peel. Always consult your practitioner for personalised advice tailored to your specific skin type and the type of peel
